At the 2020 US Open, Khachanov beat Jannik Sinner, coming back from 2 sets down, then beat Andrey Kuznetsov, before losing to Alex de Minaur in the third round.
In Rome, Khachanov lost in the first round to Casper Ruud. He came back to form in time for the French Open, where he reached the fourth round for a fourth consecutive year, beating Kamil Majchrzak, Jiří Veselý and Cristian Garín, before losing to world No. 1 Novak Djokovic.
